Network Meeting Demonstrates Progress in Digital Construction Site Monitoring
On November 4, 2025, the Field2BIM research project consortium met for a productive network meeting at the Dr. Kurt Blindow Schools in the historic Palais Bückeburg. he project partners – Internet Marketing Services GmbH (IMS), GRBV Ingenieure im Bauwesen, Geodetic Institute of RWTH Aachen (GIA), and albert.ing – presented the progress of the current reporting period. Representatives from the partner project BIM2Field of the ZIM innovation network 5G4Construction also participated.
Optimized Strategy, Focused Development
An important strategic decision in the current project phase: Instead of developing a custom LiDAR scanner app as originally planned, the team is now using the proven Polycam software, which can now deliver all required data formats.
"This decision allows us to concentrate resources on the core functionality: the Field2BIM comparison method," explains Dr. Matthias Wenthe from IMS. "We benefit from an established solution and can focus on innovation."
Integration and User-Friendliness in Focus
A significant milestone is the successful integration of albert.ing's Squirrel ticket system into the AR-Explorer platform. Construction site workers can now create tickets directly in AR-Explorer, which are automatically tagged with precise geocoordinates and synchronized in real-time.
In parallel, the AR-Explorer user interface has been significantly improved. A new menu bar offers extended functions for working in the AR view, from measurement tools to floor selection.
From Concept to Practical Application
The project is now moving into a decisive phase: The coming months will focus on practical implementation and testing. Field tests on real construction sites with the project partners will show how the developed methods perform in practice.
"We are on a very good path," summarizes Wenthe. "The combination of augmented reality, intelligent data processing, and seamless integration offers enormous potential for quality assurance in construction."
About the Field2BIM Project
Field2BIM is part of the ZIM innovation network 5G4Construction and is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. The goal is to develop an intuitive construction management tool for digital verification and early detection of deviations in building construction.
